Susan takes Greg to the hair place where she and Gramma goes to.
Since the family is in a tight budget, the family can't go to the beach, in which stinks because Greg really wants to ride on the 'Cranium Shaker', and looks forward to his birthday and Lil' Cutie's final comic. Greg gets irritated by the fact that every time he has to go to the town pool, he has to go through the locker rooms before swimming. Like Greg said before, Susan tries to get Greg to go to the town pool. Then, later on Greg got kicked out of the country club. Jefferson, in which he never complains with Greg too. After this, he reported his complaints to Mr. Greg then notices that the country club started to go downhill, like sometimes the sauna's temperature was a few degrees to hot, and one time the poolside waiter forgot to put an umbrella on his fruit smoothie. Despite this, Greg and Rowley were better off without having a girl around anyway. They then invited a girl that recently moved into Greg's neighborhood, Trista, but lost interest in Greg and Rowley when she met some lifeguard. However, Greg refuses to go because at the beginning of the summer, he and Rowley go to the country club every single day.
The story starts with Greg saying that in the summer, he wants to stay indoors playing video games, but Susan tries to shut it down and make Greg go to the town pool.
